Happy New Year!
At this time of year it seems appropriate to take a look at some highlight exhibitions programmed for the year ahead.
- Riflemaker kick off 2011 with an exhibition entitled Analog paying homage to all things analogue, particularly featuring Richard Nicholson’s series of photographs of darkrooms at the point of their demise.
- Daniel Sinsel is not an artist I have come across before but his upcoming exhibition from the end of January at Chisenhale Gallery sounds interesting. “Sinsel’s small handcrafted paintings and sculptures explore classical themes of space, volume and illusion and combine art historical references with a personal iconography.”
- The Barbican will be bringing together the various art forms of Laurie Anderson, Trisha Brown and Gordon Matta-Clark, whose work responded to the urban environment of New York from March.
- Due to ongoing building works the Photographer’s Gallery’s Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2011 will be relocated to Ambika P3 at the University of Westminster, 35 Marylebone Road, NW1 5LS in April. The four shortlisted artists are Thomas Demand (for his exhibition at Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin), Jim Goldberg, Roe Ethridge, and Elad Lassry.
- Tate Modern is hosting a major retrospective of Gerhard Richter from October, whose work was revolutionary in its use of photography as the subject of his paintings.
